“And forget that language barrier nonsense; we’d be delighted to hear you scream for mercy… in English or French.”
Sounds familiar? Many will recognize there the iconic blurb on the back cover of Montreal by Night, and it is a very important topic; one, we felt, needed to be addressed first. You see, while Montreal, and indeed the entire province, is one originating from, and steeped in, French culture, working knowledge of French is not at all necessary to visit. A prime tourist destination, you will find yourself greeted in both Canadian official languages at an overwhelming majority of sites you will visit.
Furthermore, both the convention hotel and the nearby gaming venue are located in the western side of downtown Montreal, a traditionally English area.
The reputation of the city of Montréal speaks for itself. When we say the name of that city, everyone has a memory, a favorite spot, a dish or a person to tell a story about. By picking a hotel in a downtown location instead of near an airport, we hope that members will be able to wander the city for a bit and broaden their convention experience.
It will be fairly easy for guests to reach the Old Port, the Quartier Latin, the Gay Village or Downtown from the hotel location. As such, the best restaurants, nightclubs, shopping and tourist attractions will be accessible for attendees wishing not to be hotel-bound for the entirety of the convention. Our hosting locations are short walks away from many affordable, primary subway and city bus lines, and so, very little will be out of their grasp.
